Basketball Court
This year our team built a Basketball Half Court beside the Seaside Community School with the help of the locals. A basketball hoop was constructed on site and the court lines were painted to finish it off. The paint was only left to dry for 20 minutes before a group of kids began playing ball! We’re very excited about its future impact in the community.
Green House
A group of landscapers, horticulturalists and tradesmen came along this year to construct a Green House for the school. Whilst we were there we planted the first batch of seedlings, in hope of transplanting them elsewhere once they have matured. Our vision is that the Green house be used as a learning tool in agriculture or even as a fundraiser where kids could sell what they’ve grown.
Optometry
Our Optometry team brought over 200 sight aid glasses and 150 sunglasses to give to the surrounding village. Optometry equipment and reading charts were used to test for vision impairment. Great to see so many lives impacted through a simple pair of glasses.
Computer Drawing & Design
Through generously donated laptops we were able to run lessons in Building Design to school students and teachers. In each class, kids were taught how to design a small house with windows, doors and a patio. Although challenging teaching kids without prior computer skills, we were able to inspire young minds in a village where this sort of technology is uncommon.
Spray Painting
This year the owner of a spray painting business in Noosa set up a make shift spray booth and ran classes with senior students. The kids learnt how to operate the spray guns and painted their school desks in various colours. This practical experience equipped kids with new skills that could potentially lead to future employment opportunities in an ever growing industry.
Teaching
A team of teachers ran classes for kids with learning difficulties and provided the school with educational material and equipment. All of the teachers were immensely thankful for fresh and new educational equipment.
First Aid
A qualified registered Emergency Nurse and a Doctor came over to run First Aid courses for students, teachers and adults in the village. For a country where access to medical services aren’t always available, these classes were vital in demonstrating skills that could be potentially life-saving.
